After studying human rights articles such as the right to good administration and the right to engage in work, as welll as children's rights such as the right to a safe place to play the group decided they would like to improve the local play ground facilities. The playground had suffered from long term neglect and there was a lot of graffiti and vandalism that was preventing it from being a safe place to play.
The young people paired up with council officers and community police officers to create a working group to improve the playground. Through this they were able to apply for several funding bids and raise money so that they could undertake improvements to the play area. The group also made a DVD charting thir progress which they sent to newspapers like the Newcastle Chronicle. The project was also about shared values in action as in order to carry out the work the group had to agree to work with certain values such as listening to each other (respect).
